Queer

Queer is a collective term for people whose sexual orientation or gender identity does not correspond to the social norm of "heterosexual" and "cisgender".

These can include, for example

  • lesbian, gay and bisexual people
  • trans, non-binary and intersex people
  • People with other identities or orientations outside the majority norm

Important:

  • Some use "queer" as positive self-designation and expression of diversity.
  • The word used to be used as a swear word. Today, many use it deliberately to show strength and community.

"Queer" is deliberately open and not narrowly defined - it encompasses different identities and experiences.
