Trans

Trans (short for transgender or transident) describes people whose gender identity does not match the sex they were assigned at birth.

Examples:

  • A person is registered as "male" at birth, but sees themselves as a woman → Trans woman.
  • A person is registered as "female" at birth, but sees themselves as male → Trans man.
  • Some trans people do not categorise themselves as men or women but, for example, as non-binary.

"Trans" describes the identity, not whether a person utilises medical measures such as hormone therapy or surgery. Every trans person shapes their path individually.
