Cell

Cell is the smallest living unit of the body. All organs and tissues are made up of cells.

Important features:

  • Each cell is characterised by a Cell membrane that lets substances in and out.
  • In the Cell nucleus contains the genetic information (DNA/chromosomes).
  • Cell organelles inside the body perform tasks such as energy production, protein synthesis and waste disposal.

Types of cells in the human body:

  • Muscle cells → ensure movement
  • Nerve cells → Forward signals
  • Blood cells → Transport oxygen, fight pathogens
  • Skin cells → protect the body from the outside
