Cell is the smallest living unit of the body. All organs and tissues are made up of cells.
Important features:
- Each cell is characterised by a Cell membrane that lets substances in and out.
- In the Cell nucleus contains the genetic information (DNA/chromosomes).
- Cell organelles inside the body perform tasks such as energy production, protein synthesis and waste disposal.
Types of cells in the human body:
- Muscle cells → ensure movement
- Nerve cells → Forward signals
- Blood cells → Transport oxygen, fight pathogens
- Skin cells → protect the body from the outside
