Hepatitis

The term Hepatitis means Liver inflammation. It can be caused by various factors - most frequently by Virusesbut also through Alcohol, medication or other illnesses.

Viral hepatitis:

  • There are several types: Hepatitis A, B, C, D and E.
  • They differ in the type of transmission and the course of the disease.
    • Hepatitis A and E: mostly via contaminated food or water
    • Hepatitis B, C and D: via blood or sexual contact
  • Some moulds run acute and heal completely (e.g. hepatitis A).
  • Others can Chronic (especially hepatitis B and C) and can lead to severe Liver damage such as liver cirrhosis or liver cancer.

Symptoms:

  • Tiredness, loss of appetite, nausea
  • Yellowing of skin and eyes (Jaundice)
  • Dark urine, light-coloured stool

Treatment & prevention:

  • Against hepatitis A and B there are Vaccinations.
