MSM is the abbreviation for "Men who have sex with men" - so Men who have sex with men.
- The term describes Behaviournot identity. So a man can be MSM without labelling himself gay or bisexual.
- MSM is mainly used in the Medicine and sexual health used, e.g. for information on HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
- The term is intended to be neutral and inclusive, as it does not make any statements about sexual orientation, relationship form or self-designation.
MSM is a technical collective term. In the community, people usually refer to themselves with terms such as gay, bisexual, queer or simply the way they see themselves.
