The term Transvestite is an older expression and is rarely used today, as it is often perceived as outdated or derogatory.

- The term is not synonymous with trans or transgender. Trans people live permanently in their perceived gender.
- Today one speaks rather of Cross-dressing or describes more precisely what a person wants to express.
