Travesty describes a Stage and art formin which people slip into the role of another gender and portray it in a playful or exaggerated manner.
- Typical is a deliberate exaggeration gender roles, for example through conspicuous clothing, make-up and gestures.
- Particularly well known are Travesty artistswho perform as "drag queens". But there are also male travesty roles ("Drag Kings").
- The aim is usually entertainment - for example through humour, satire, song or dance.
Important: Travesty is not the same as transidentity or transsexuality.
- Travesty is about Artistic play with gender roles.
- Trans people, on the other hand, live permanently in a gender that does not correspond to the gender assigned at birth.
