Warts

Warts are benign, small growths of the skin or mucous membrane. They develop when certain Viruses - mostly human papillomaviruses (HPV) - infect skin cells and stimulate excessive growth.

Types of warts:

  • Common warts: often on hands or fingers, feel hard and rough.
  • Plantar warts (plantar warts): on the soles of the feet, can hurt when walking.
  • Flat warts: Small, smooth, often on the face or arms.
  • Genital warts (genital warts): in the genital area; they are sexually transmitted infections.

Many warts disappear by themselves after a while. In the case of warts in the genital area or very stubborn warts, medical treatment is advisable.
