Who I am
Dear people, dear heroes,
I am Vivienne Lovecraft - non-binary drag queen, organiser, DJ, daughter of an immigrant. I'm standing here, and I'm scared. Afraid that we, and by that I mean myself and all my queer, transgender, BIPoC siblings, will suffer the same existential fears and real dangers with the current political course as our siblings in the USA.
Rights are dwindling - internationally and here
The world is watching and seeing how quickly rights that we have fought for for years can be lost within a few months.
Check out the Stonewall Memorial website: The words "transgender" and "bisexuality" have been removed.
The YouTube channel of IWWIT? Deleted. It took a huge outcry on social media and an open letter from the German AIDS service organisation to bring it back.
In moments of fear: remembering heroines
At times like this, I'm overcome with fear. Then I often think of my childhood heroines: Sailor Moon, Jean Grey, Buffy the Demon Slayer. Heroines who don't look away when someone is in need. Heroines who fight for the good and against the injustice of this world.
Today you are the heroes
But today? Today I don't have to think about fictional heroines.
Today I am looking forward, to you. To every single person who came to the demonstration today with intention, with fear, anger and above all with love in their hearts, for a better world for all.
Eachr, whichwho, despite the darkness out there, celebrates queerness with glitter on his face and courage in his heart and stands up for queer rights, is in my eyes ae heroin. Because together we are strong, invincible, determined and courageous.
Our political demands
Now is the time for German politics to follow suit. I call for it:
- Comprehensive healthcare for transTrans (short for transgender or transident) describes people whose gender identity does not match the gender they are assigned. Mehr*, non-binary and inter* people.
- Financial support for queer projects, shelters and advice centres - especially for transTrans (short for transgender or transident) describes people whose gender identity does not match the gender they are assigned. Mehr*, non-binary, BIPoC queers and refugees.
- Reform asylum law for queer refugees.
- Securing queer cultural spaces for the generations that come after us.
- Inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity as categories of protection in Article 3 of the Basic Law.
- No to the transvestite file 2.0!
The era of the heroines
Today, we are not just people - we are Hundreds of thousands of heroes in the capital of Germany. We say: "Never be quiet again!" and politicians must finally listen!
Because now it's here:
- The era of equality
- The era of love
- The era of justice
Make way - for the era of heroes!
