Safer Sex 3.0

Safer Sex 3.0

In addition to condoms, there are now other safer sex methods to protect against HIV, namely PrEP and protection through therapy. You decide which safer sex method (currently) suits you best. You don't have to decide once and for all, but can decide depending on the situation and phase of your life. You can also use several methods - the German AIDS service organisation summarises this as „Safer Sex 3.0“.

Condom

The condom (external or internal) protects against HIV transmission. It is probably the best-known safer sex method.

Protection through therapy

HIV medication suppresses the multiplication of HIV in the body. HIV can then not be transmitted during sex.

PrEP

With PrEP, HIV-negative people take HIV medication, to protect themselves from infection with HIV. The costs for the PrEP and the checks are covered by statutory health insurance. adopted.

PEP

After unprotected anal intercourse (e.g. without a condom, PrEP not taken correctly for a long time) with a high HIV risk a four-week "PEP" with HIV medication can prevent HIV infection. prevent infection in most cases.

Sexually transmitted diseases: Go for a test!

In addition to HIV, there are other sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV.B. Gonorrhoea, Syphilis or chlamydia. Condoms reduce the risk of infection, do not offer complete protection.

In person & on site:
Under iwwit.de/counselling you can find PEP centres, test offers and personal advice centres in your area.

Online & anonymous:
The Gay Health Chat counsels gay, bi+ and other men (cis and trans) anonymously, confidentially and competently - in German or English. The counsellors work for AIDS service organisations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
